How Do I Know If I Am Ready For
“Recovery?”
You do not have to be “ready” by being in
“denial” if you do not choose abstinence. You are in
recovery when YOU say there is a problem and want to reduce
harm. You should choose your own path, at your own pace to
take action and reduce the harm from your substance use.
Motivational Recovery can help you quickly and respectfully
move through your recovery stages, including relapse.
NIAAA And The
IOM
The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse
and Alcoholism stated that the focus of society has
been on alcohol dependence (“alcoholic”), when in
reality “most drinking problems are of mild to moderate
severity and are amenable to relatively brief
interventions. Thus, therapies and health care
professionals are asked to direct interventions not only
to drinkers with alcohol use disorders, but also to
problem and 'at-risk' drinkers.” The Institute of Medicine
also called for a
“broadening of the base for treatment” for problem
drinkers.
